Rebounds – Day 26

Today was a struggle in the afternoon. I got hungry around 12 and it didn’t fade any until I ate around 4pm. I made it 22 hours, but I would’ve broken at 20 hours today if I had opportunity. The most encouraging aspects of the day was that I stayed in Ketosis despite the carbs yesterday. I woke up at 0.3 mmol/L, then went to work out. This consisted of a body weight circuit that lasted approximately 35 minutes. After my workout my ketones were at 0.9 mmol/L, which is trace. When I broke at 22-hours I was at 1.0 mmol/L. This indicates that I was in Ketosis for the majority of my waking hours today. Which isn’t too surprising because my carb count yesterday was low – 200g.

I had friend chicken, steak, okra, Hershey kisses, MMs and closed with some raisins. Unfortunately, I ate quite early and finished by 5pm, this will likely lead to another day of increased and early cravings. I did intake a lot more carbs today. They were gone in just a few hours, which tells me that my glycogen is being depleted and staying at low levels. I assert this from the time that it took to be back in Ketosis, at 4 hours I was already back to my “pre-meal” state when I tested at 0.9 mmol/L. Those individuals unfamiliar with this process will be surprised after reading the contents of my meal. I finished with 550g of carbs, yet, 4 hours later my primary fuel source is still ketones.

I ordered a ketones breath meter this evening. I plan to test it side by side with the blood test and see how accurate it is reading. It would be an added metric if I can track ketones throughout the day when I receive body feedback such hunger pangs or headaches.

Tomorrow should be a long run; my fitness program is still revolving around the rapidly approaching fitness test. This means another week of limited gym work, and maximum body weight focus.

Stay tuned…
